Arcese Group acquires the New eActros 600, the all-electric, long-haul, zero-emission tractor unit from Mercedes-Benz Trucks

Arcese Group, a global logistics company, and Daimler Truck Italia announce that they have signed an agreement to acquire the New Mercedes-Benz eActros 600, which made its world premiere on 12 October 2023 in Hamburg: the new all-electric tractor unit, designed for long-distance heavy haulage on plannable routes, plans to redefine sustainability, profitability, safety and design standards.

Arcese, which is already a long-established partner of Daimler Truck Italia, has once again selected the commercial vehicles by Mercedes-Benz Trucks for the electrification of their fleet by acquiring the New eActros 600. With the launch of the new all-electric tractor, the Daimler Truck group ushers in the era of battery-powered scheduled transport. In fact, the vehicle was designed to make regular journeys, with a range of up to 500 kilometres without intermediate charging, on routes that can be planned in an energy-efficient manner. The objective is not just to offer a simple electronic Truck, but also to provide clients with a customised and integrated solution from consultation through to implementation to support them in their transition towards e-mobility, hence the eActros 600 will bear the slogan “Charged to Change”. With deployment in Europe expected to begin from January 2025, the Arcese Group will be amongst the first to integrate this new generation of electric vehicles into its fleet.

Emanuele Arcese, Global VP Road Freight FTL of Arcese Group said: ‘Our decision to acquire the New Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 reflects our ongoing trust in Mercedes-Benz Trucks commercial vehicles and highlights our key role in the revolution towards zero-emission heavy haulage, symbolising our commitment to increasingly sustainable global logistics. Our partnership with Daimler Truck Italia allows us to offer our clients integrated solutions, supporting their transition to e-mobility. In fact, with the arrival of the new Mercedes electric vehicles, we further enhance our green production capacity, which currently already includes Bio-LNG and HVO powered vehicles and short-sea and rail intermodal transport. Thus, we can make our journeys using the best combination of production factors in terms of environmental sustainability. We are proud to play a leading role in this transformation and to invest in sustainable solutions to help reshape the industry’s standards.’

Maurizio Pompei, CEO of Daimler Truck Italia commented: ‘At Daimler Truck Group, we are highly focused on emission-free technology. Five years from now, we will have an entire portfolio of carbon-neutral products, with vehicles that range from regional to long-distance heavy haulage. Offering our clients an ecosystem of vehicle technology, consultation, charging infrastructure and services is the cornerstone of our long-distance, battery-powered transport philosophy. We estimate that, by 2030, our emission-free vehicles will account for 60% of our total sales in Europe. With the New eActros 600 - the first long-distance electric tractor unit designed for series production that bears the Three-Pointed Star - we have ushered in a new era for sustainable freight transport. In this regard, we are proud to be able to rely on our partnership with the Arcese Group, which, once again, has reaffirmed that our trucks are their preferred choice for achieving their goal of lowering environmental impact and accompanying us in the energy revolution process.’

The New Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 “Charged to Change”
The eActros 600 features a 100% electric power chain (eAxle) that integrates the two electric motors and four-speed transmission directly into the axle, perfectly optimised with PPC (Predictive Powershift Control) functions for maximum efficiency and economy. The eActros 600 is equipped with three battery packs, each with 207 kWh of installed capacity and 200 kWh of usable capacity, which offer a total capacity equal to 621 kWh/600 kWh and allow the vehicle to travel 500 kilometres without intermediate charging. The newly-developed batteries are based on lithium iron phosphate cell technology (LFP) and are praised for their long service life and increased usable energy. These batteries have a service life of 1.2 million kilometres and are designed to be recharged from 20% to 80% in less than 30 minutes at any soon-to-be-available megawatt charging station with an output of around a megawatt. Furthermore, with its new a innovatively designed aerodynamic cab (ProCabin), the eActros 600 stands out not only for its efficiency but also for its particularly quiet ride, thanks to the reduction in wind noise.

As regards safety, the New eActros 600 sets new standards. In fact, the vehicle features a new electronic platform, the “sensor fusion”, which merges radar and camera data for an even greater view to the front and side. The significantly enlarged angle of vision increases the efficiency of the state-of-the-art driving safety assistance systems, including Active Brake Assist 6 (ABA 6), Frontguard Assist, Active Sideguard Assist 2 (ASGA 2) and Active Drive Assist 3 (ADA 3).
